When I run xmms, I get a pop-up window with an error message
like [it's in Portuguese, I am trying to translate it]:

  Error opening audio

  Please verify if:

  1. You have the correct output plugin
  2. No other program is blocking the sound card
  3. Your sound card is correctly configured

Also, there's a text error message in the terminal, saying

  ** WARNING **: oss_open(): Failed to open audio device (/dev/dsp):
  Permissão negada

[Permissão negada == Permission denied]

and then I have to kill -9 xmms

It didn't happen - it was just my paranoia :-)
