snd-ymfpci already registers the gameport, so you don't need ns558,
and it wouldn't be able to grab this port address again anyway.

Okay, that explains that.


So, the gameport module seems to be loaded. Trying to load joydev and
sidewinder works, but the joystick still doesn't work.
It should work, though, after loading the sidewinder module, but I
don't have a joystick here to test. Maybe you need the input module,
too?

The input module is compiled into the kernel.


However, that may be the problem - the input module starts before the enabler goes off, so it probably doesn't see the interface. I will try compiling it as a module and loading it after the alsa modules load.
