What receiver do you have? My guess is that the problem is related to the
"Valid" bits in the SPDIF stream, as suggested by Ray Heasman
(http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg07787.html).
Maybe my receiver is improperly interpreting these bits.

Anyways, I replaced the YMF-754 based card with a C-Media CMI8738 based one
and AC3 passthrough worked immediately.

The README in the ac3dec directory has useful hints to find sample ac3
files. I got mine from
http://www.digital-digest.net/downloads/files/trailers/ac3test.exe. It
contains a voice track that identifies all 5 channels. With this track I
also noticed that left and right channels were reversed.
