Hello everybody! I've installed the latest alsa drivers (0.9.2). All the functions of the driver I need work, but the sound quality is poor. In Windows it sounds a lot better, although with ALSA it is much (somewhere like 2 to 4 times) louder (with the same mixer settings - wave and master to max, others to min). I've found that this loudness depends on the "VIA DXS" control, but not in realtime (e.g. when playing this control doesn't change anything, it has importance only when sound starts). Besides, if VIA DXS is set to 0, the playing doesn't start at all (e.g. the counter in xmms stays at 00:00).
What is the meaning of this control? I cannot find any information anywhere on it. And why the sound is so bad (it sounds like quantized at 8000Hz although /proc/asound says that channel is active and plays at 44KHz 16-bit)? Maybe its something with the mixer settings? It sounds like the sound from DAC is clipped somewhere *before* the amplifier (because master volume doesn't help with distortions). Also maybe someone knows what the auxiliary controls that alsamixer shows are for? (3D control switch, surround, LFE etc). Some of them even cannot be changed from alsamixer at all (e.g. 3D control). -- Greetings, Andrew ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ Alsa-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
