hello alsa users :)

this seems to be a recurrent problem...
my hardware : msi KT7 MB with VIA8233a built-in.

what ever the version of ALSA I try, I can't get my soundcard working (or I
can, but it has very stange behaviour, see below).

of course the sound is not muted (aumix works, but no other mixer (ex: kmix))

the only program I can play sound with is xmms, via oss emulation (alsa plugin
doesn't work: it makes xmms to freeze)

if I try to play sound with another program (ogg123 for example), either via
oss emulation or alsa, it doesn't work: the program seems to hang. I've tried
a bunch of programs and none can play sound (mplayer, xine, mpg123, ogg123,
s.o.) either via oss or alsa.

here is my lsmod (i'm currently using 0.9rc2, but this is exactly the same
problem with the 0.9.3 and via82xx module).

[EMAIL PROTECTED] jice]$ lsmod|grep snd
snd-pcm-oss 41348 1 (autoclean)
snd-mixer-oss 11928 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm-oss]
snd-via8233 7404 1
snd-ac97-codec 30436 0 [snd-via8233]
snd-pcm 70080 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-via8233]
snd-timer 14696 0 [snd-pcm]
snd-page-alloc 7884 0 [snd-via8233 snd-pcm]
snd 37708 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-via8233
snd-ac97-codec snd-pcm snd-timer]
soundcore 6276 0 [snd bttv]

and my lspci:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] alsa]$ lspci

(rev 11)
00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233 AC97 Audio

(i've removed non relevant lines)

here are the dsp devices:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] alsa]$ ll /dev/dsp
crw------- 1 jice audio 14, 3 avr 29 00:56 /dev/dsp
[EMAIL PROTECTED] alsa]$ ll /dev/adsp

[EMAIL PROTECTED] alsa]$ ll /dev/adsp*
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            5 avr 29 00:56 /dev/adsp -> adsp0
crw------- 1 jice audio 14, 12 avr 29 00:56 /dev/adsp0

i don't know what to try... thanks for those who will try to help me.
