Hi,

I guess you have gotten this kind of request several times, and you are
probably fed up with newbies like myself, but I am gonna give it a try
anyway.

I am a quite experienced computer user, but I am totally new to Linux.
This is a completely new world to me, but I must say that it looks quite
exiting. I have just installed Redhat 8 for the very first time. I have
gotten most of my devices to work, with one exception - my Audigy
soundcard. I have been reading a lot of tutorials and how-to on how to
use the ALSA drivers to get this card to work, but to no avail. I must
confess that I am feeling both stupid and helpless when loads of error
messages are scrolling over my monitor when trying to run the "make"
command.

My system:
Pentium 4 2,53 Ghz with 1024 MB RAM, Radeon 9700, Audigy sound
Redhat 8, Kernel: 2.4.18-27.8.0

What I have tried so far:
1. Installing the alsa drivers. I have used several tutorials, f.eg
this:
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php3?company=Creative+Labs&card=Soundblaster+Audigy+Platinum&chip=Audigy&module=emu10k1

When I get to my second "make" I get hundres of lines with error
messages that does not mean anything to me :(

2. I have tried the OSS drivers. These give me sund, but very limited.
It plays system sounds, but no audio CD or mp3 files. Should these be
uninstalled? If yes, how do I do it?

What I would higly appreciate:
A detailed description of EXCACTLY what I will have to do to enable
sound on my system using the ALSA drivers.

Regards,
Eirik
