Hi,
After pondering the situation for awhile, I finally closed my eyes and
bought Santa Cruz. <hehe> The card should be here on Monday. I've read a
lot of commentary on the lack of support from Cirrus Logic on the
Crystal Semiconductor 4630, especially Jaroslav's comments back in May
of 2002. From more recent commentary, it appears that ALSA support is
still problematic for this chip although the soundcard matrix seems to
indicate otherwise. I'm currently using ALSA .9rc6 because the
timidity++ server capability appears broken in .9rc7 (1) so I'll
probably stay with rc6 until rc8 or possibly CVS once I get the card on
Monday. Irregardless, I know that I won't be disappointed, but if the
lack of cooperation from Cirrus Logic persists, I'll reconsider my
choice of chip manufacturers in the future.
(1) BTW, can someone update me on the development of timidity++? Has
development ceased or what?
