I have an Asus MEW-AML motherboard with an integrated sound card. The chipset is the CS4280. The output is connected to my 5-speaker minisystem. When I play mp3 or ogg files in XMMS, the sound quality is much lower than I would expect. Frequencies are shifted, voices come from the rear speakers, bass is almost non-existent, etc. At first I thought it was a hardware problem, but the sound is fine under Winamp with Win98. I am running Mandrake 9.0, so it was supposed to configure everything for me. Also; could someone explain the snd_external_amp option? It doesn't seem to make a difference, but it looks important ;-). Any help would be appreciated. Andrew
