[Alsa-user] kernel patch

hi, i saw two messages about nforce2 chipset and onboard sound, but i haven't understood what to do to add nforce2 support to alsa ( i'm a big newbie ) so i've found a patch about that later, in kernel patch section, but i don't know how to patch a kernel.   i just type patch name_of_the_patch but computer starts a neverending work, so i would like to know wich command shall i type? the patch is 18/12/2002 in kernel patch section. thanks.
