Locate snd.o:
/home/michael1/alsa/alsa-driver-0.5.9d/modules/snd.o
/home/michael1/alsa2/alsa-driver-0.5.9d/modules/snd.o
/lib/modules/2.2.19/misc/msnd.o
/lib/modules/2.2.20-old/misc/msnd.o
/lib/modules/2.4.19-686/alsa/snd.o
/lib/modules/2.4.19-686/kernel/drivers/sound/msnd.o

uname -r:
2.2.20

If I remember right, I may have recompiled my kernel towards 2.4.19, but I never successfully installed it because the .bz2 images didn't match the loadlin driver, and thus it never works. It just doesn't recognize the .img file or .bz2 file that is produced -- which is why I had been trying to work with modules.
