I have exactly the same problem, the libtool (that is included in the
package, so why can't you check for yourself? :-) is version:

ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.3.3 (1.385.2.181 1999/07/02 15:49:11)

I installed libtool 1.4.2-7 and now I get this error:

gcc -shared conf.lo confmisc.lo input.lo output.lo async.lo error.lo
dlmisc.lo -Wl,--whole-archive control/.libs/libcontrol.al
mixer/.libs/libmixer.al pcm/.libs/libpcm.al rawmidi/.libs/librawmidi.al
timer/.libs/libtimer.al hwdep/.libs/libhwdep.al seq/.libs/libseq.al
instr/.libs/libinstr.al compat/.libs/libcompat.al
-Wl,--no-whole-archive -lm -ldl -lpthread -lc -Wl,-soname
-Wl,libasound.so.2 -o .libs/libasound.so.2.0.0
/usr/bin/ld: .libs/libasound.so.2.0.0: undefined versioned symbol name
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
/usr/bin/ld: failed to set dynamic section sizes: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

So I'll try and upgrade ld in a sec, but have another question, I had to
install newer versions of autoconf and automake. Should I recompile the
drivers too? Since I compiled them with the older version...
