Not yet. This issue has been discussed many, many times on this list, the
architecture is there, but an "end-user" implementation is missing.  
There's already aserver in the ALSA CVS (as has been for a long time), but
it's not easy to setup (well, there are just no instructions on how to do
it), and I'm not sure whether it's ready for regular use.

I guess the difficult thing is making the software mixing layer easy to
setup and use. To achieve this, I think the plugin layer would have to
have the logic to start the aserver (or some such) if a second plugin
instance is started. This, while easy to use, is not trivial to implement.

One thing to note is that some soundcards support hardware mixing, and
this _is_ supported by ALSA.
