Hello to both of you-

Do you have an internal connection from your CDplayer
to your soundcard (slim grey cable)? If not, you need
an app that can read/play over the IDE bus.
Alsaplayer can do this (though it fails to see
individual tracks on my machine...???), and cdda2wav
will too from the command line.

cdda2wav -D /dev/cdrom -t 1 -eN

...should play track 1 from the first cdrom.

But xmms might be the best option, with one
adjustment. You have to remove the existing "CD Audio
Player" plugin (in preferences), and add one called
"cdread" which you can get it here:

ftp://mud.stack.nl/pub/OuterSpace/willem

Once you install and enable this plugin, Xmms will
load and play tracks very nicely, including CDDA
support.
