If you've just expanded the kernel sources, you must configure it at least one time (with "make menuconfig" or "make xconfig" for example). Then you have to run "make depend". At this time, make will create a symlink in the linux/include pointing your machine-dependant headers directory. After, it should be ok. If you do not plan to recompile your kernel (you do not need to do it to have this symlink, if you have an Intel-like processor), you can leave the default configuration as is by just choosing "OK" in the main config window.
