Thanks for your first email. You were right, I had installed the 0.5.x release. I got the new version (0.9.0rc2) However, I still get the same error: root@trane(vi_jedi)$ modprobe snd-es1968 /lib/modules/2.4.17/kernel/sound/pci/snd-es1968.o: init_module: No such device /lib/modules/2.4.17/kernel/sound/pci/snd-es1968.o: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters /lib/modules/2.4.17/kernel/sound/pci/snd-es1968.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.17/kernel/sound/pci/snd-es1968.o failed /lib/modules/2.4.17/kernel/sound/pci/snd-es1968.o: insmod snd-es1968 failed
I checked /var/log/messages and found this: Jul 24 17:15:53 trane kernel: maestro: Configuring ESS Maestro 2E found at IO 0xD800 IRQ 5 However, /var/log/syslog says: Jul 24 18:08:17 trane kernel: ESS Maestro soundcard not found or device busy It's a Dell Inspiron 3700. I went through the BIOS and I don't even have an option for PnP OS. Needless to say, I'm confused. Could it be a problem with the ALSA driver and kernel driver co-existing? Thanks again for all the help. -- tejus On Wed, 24 Jul 2002 21:09:35 +0200 Frans Ketelaars <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I think you are using the ALSA 0.5.x series or an early 0.9.x release (the > latest drivers don't have -card- in their module names ;) ). > > The ALSA 0.5.x series is deprecated, see http://wwww.alsa-project.org . > > You have 'PnP OS installed' set to 'no' in the BIOS right?
