Well, good news. On the advice from a kind lurking soul watching the lists, I compiled alsa-driver with gcc-2.95.3 (instead of 3.1). No more oopses. I suppose I should know by now never to compile kernel code with the latest gcc. Bad admin! Bad! Now on to *other* problems... I'm not sure how to interpret many of the mixer channels in alsamixer, but I'm fairly sure that "Master" is supposed to control *everything.* Apparently "Master" only affects the front channel... When I'm playing a DVD (via xine+4channel) or an mp3 (via xmms+alsa plugin), front channels get controlled by "Wave", and rear channels get controlled by "Wave Surround". That sort of makes sense, I suppose. The front channels are also affected by adjusting the "PCM" mixer control or "Master" mixer control; "Wave Surround" is affected only by...well..."Wave Surround." "Master" does nothing for this, and this just doesn't seem quite right to me. I would think "PCM" should affect all channels as well, sine there's only one "PCM" control... Any ideas on this? This is an SBLive! Value OEM, with what appears to be the original PCB layout (later SBLive! cards like the X-Gamer and MP3+ used a different PCB layout for some reason). -- Kelledin "If a server crashes in a server farm and no one pings it, does it still cost four figures to fix?" ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ Alsa-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
