Hi again.

I have not been able to resolve my previously reported problems with
the snd-intel8x0 yet, but I have observed that there appears to be a
regression of some kind in the kernel between 2.4.16 and 2.4.18.

In 2.4.16, the intel8x0 sound driver work nicely, whereas in both
patched 2.4.19 and vanilla 2.4.18, there are severe problems with the
driver.

On vanilla 2.4.18, I sometimes get an oops on modprobe, if the driver
doesn't oops, it gives shaky timer values (about 87840000Hz), and if I get
any sound at all, it is usually only a short burst of static, or at best
a few seconds of proper sound, followed by a burst of static, then
silence.

I will proceed to test this on 2.4.17.

The OSS i810_audio appears similarily crippled. If it finally loads
(sometimes oopses as well), it cannot do playback at 44100Hz, so it is
practically useless anyway.

Also, if any of the drivers oops on load, they are marked as being in the
"(intializing)" stage, and thus cannot be unloaded.

Kind regards,

Karl T
