Hello,

I have tried numerous ways to get realtime playing of midi data. What im
really trying to do is to get a midi sequencer(jazz++) to talk to any
sort of realtime midi player, but whatever i try i only get quietness.

here is what i've tried:

1) play a midi file using jazz++, connecting it with aconnect to
aseqview. Events display graphically in aseqview correctly so this
works.

2) playing midifile with timidity. this works.

3) starting timidity -iAvvv and connecting it to pmidi or jazz++. there
is no sound, however timidity prints out traces of incoming midi.

4) playing an mp3 with xmms. this works.

5) trying to load an sf2 font file into my sb live 5.1 card using
sfxload. im not shure if i do this right, but it doesnt seem to work.

6) trying to play midi to external midi device through the midi ports on
the sb live box. no events seem to be sent.

7) loading virmidi and connecting csound to it with csound -M
/dev/snd/midiC2D0 test.csd. again, midi data seem to arrive, but csound
doesnt send any audio out.

So i tried jazz++, vkeybd, and pmidi as midi sources, and timidity,
csound, sb live and external midi devices as targets. nothing works
except seeing events as traces or in aseqview.

I find this totally bizare. I guess there must be several problems
conspiring together here. Any help would be deeply apreciated.

I use alsa 090 rc1, kernel 2418, rh 72.
