It wasn't me that originally said anything about this, but at least
with the Audiophile 2496, there's some "creative" advertising going on
with it, and the truth is a little blurry. The "product" page says
this:

"The Audiophile 2496 includes a powerful digital mixer/router,"

but then there is also a HOWTO on their website that says this:

" NOTE: This is not an actual mixer. This is a Monitor Mixer. It does
not change the level of the signal you are sending to and from your
hard drive---only your monitoring levels. If you are sending a hot
signal to your hard drive and you're getting clipping (sharp
distortion), you cannot change that by pulling the faders on this
mixer down. You must adjust the signal at the source (your keyboard,
amp, etc.)."

and the manual says:

"Comprehensive digital mixing, routing, and monitoring capabilities
with included Delta Control Panel software."

So I think they're being a bit sneaky here :( and the reality is there
is no hardware mixer, and it's all done in software drivers.

So how does this relate to OSS mixer emulation? I don't know :>
