Hi all,
I have P4 system with motherboard (P4S5A) from ECS.
This board has on-board sound. And all i can read
about the board is that it is AC97 complient codec.
When i execute lspcidrake -v | egrep -i
'(audio|sound)' i get
snd-card-intel8x0: Silicon Integrated Systems
[SiS]|SiS7012 PCI Audio Accelerator [MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO]

When i do amixer set -c 1 Master 70 unmute i get
The ALSA sound driver was not detected in this
system.
Now i execute /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsa restart
i see
Doing alsactl to store mixer settings...
[ OK ]
Shutting down ALSA sound driver (version 0.5.12a):
[ OK ]
Starting ALSA version 0.5.12a: (intel8x0)
[ OK ]
Try unmuting again, still no sound.

I saw the following entry in the INSTALL file. No
other info.

snd_ac97_clock - AC'97 codec clock base (0 =

if you still encounter too fast playback, specify
the clock
explicitly via the module option
"snd_ac97_clock=41194".
Could some one please help.
I am using the Latest 8.2 version of Mandrake Linux
