I have an issue with multiple OSS/Free and/or native Alsa applications accessing the sound hardware on a IBM Thinkpad A20p. The Thinkpad has a CS46XX sound system. I am not looking for any advanced mixing, just the ability to have a system bell sound play while XMMS is playing some MP3s without one program or the other hanging or telling me that it can't access /dev/dsp.... I have another system (PIII 850 Desktop) with a SB PCI 512 (emu10k1) card and I don't have these issues. Is the CS46XX driver single threaded or something? I am using alsa 0.9.0beta12 on both systems. Both are Similiar installs of RH 7.2, with kernel 2.4.16, KDE 2.2.2. with artsd.
