Hello,

I've got a generic laptop (PowerNotebooks PowerPro 3:33, which is some
generic 30n3 laptop) that uses the VIA686A chipset. I've built the ALSA
0.9beta10 drivers with a 2.4.17 kernel. Put simply, it doesn't work.
I've configured everything so that the appropriate modules are loaded
up. While doing so I get these errors, but it continues nonetheless:

Feb 25 20:02:11 localhost kernel: PCI: Assigned IRQ 5 for device 00:07.5
Feb 25 20:02:11 localhost kernel: PCI: Sharing IRQ 5 with 00:04.1
Feb 25 20:02:11 localhost kernel: PCI: Sharing IRQ 5 with 00:0d.0
Feb 25 20:02:11 localhost kernel: IRQ routing conflict for 00:11.0, have
irq 11, want irq 5

All the appropraite modules are loaded. However, the only devices
created are the following:

rob@localhost:~$ ll /dev/snd/
total 0
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 0 Dec 31 1969 controlC0
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 32 Dec 31 1969 controlC1
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 64 Dec 31 1969 controlC2
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 96 Dec 31 1969 controlC3
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 33 Dec 31 1969 timer

So unsurprisingly, trying to run aplay or amixer or whatever results in
complaints about it not being able to find the device. Checking the
/proc filesystem reveals:

rob@localhost:~$ cat /proc/asound/sndstat
Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v0.9.0beta10 emulation code)
Kernel: Linux localhost 2.4.17 #1 Sat Jan 12 17:59:29 CST 2002 i686
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:
Type 10: ALSA emulation

Card config:
--- no soundcards ---

Audio devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Midi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Timers:
7: system timer

Mixers: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Any thoughts? I was able to play sound just fine using the kernel driver
(via82cxxx_audio)

Incidentally, those other devices on IRQ 5 are the Cardbus and Firewire
controllers. IRQ 11 is Ethernet.
