Yes, that's where the alsa drivers get installed. Remove everything in
/lib/modules/X.X.XX/misc/snd-* it's all alsa stuff. Then do depmod
-a. It could be that you have a boot script that is still trying to
load those modules.

But maybe you do have a hardware problem, I don't know.
