G'Day List, I have been trying to configure a hercules fortissimoII snd card(cs4624 chipset) for about a week or so now and have hit a dead-end, thought I better try the list just in case I've done something stupid. I have tried the native support in kernel 2.4.17, alsa 0.5.12a and alsa 0.9.0beta9(the lib doesn't compile for me btw). Both the 0.5.12a version and the native oss code compile cleanly and load OK. The mixers seem to recognize them OK, but if I start playing a CD or fire up a game there is no sound at all. The cd players seem to be playing the cd as expected, except for the fact that nothing is coming out. I read in an archive somewhere the other night that sometimes the chips have to be initialised via Windows and the supplied software. I hope I don't have to do this :-( bit of a pain to build a windows box just to get a sound card going.
It seems that there are many reports of success with this card so I am assuming I have missed something along the way. Has anybody else had trouble with this card and/or chipset?? Anyway here is some more info on the system; kernel 2.4.17 smp alsa 0.5.12a Output from, lsmod. ------------------------------- Module Size Used by snd-mixer-oss 4640 1 (autoclean) snd-card-cs461x 1888 1 snd-cs461x 67472 0 [snd-card-cs461x] snd-rawmidi 10464 0 [snd-cs461x] snd-seq-device 3776 0 [snd-rawmidi] snd-pcm 32544 0 [snd-cs461x] snd-timer 9200 0 [snd-pcm] snd-ac97-codec 24800 0 [snd-cs461x] snd-mixer 25088 0 [snd-mixer-oss snd-ac97-codec] snd 32912 1 (autoclean) [snd-mixer-oss snd-card-cs461x snd-cs461x snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd-pcm snd-timer snd-ac97-codec snd-mixer] soundcore 3984 3 [snd] ppp_async 6512 1 (autoclean) ppp_generic 16832 3 (autoclean) [ppp_async] slhc 4640 1 (autoclean) [ppp_generic] mga 99616 1 agpgart 16448 3 3c59x 25696 1 (autoclean) usb-uhci 22096 0 (unused) usbcore 30752 0 [usb-uhci] from /proc/asound -------------------------------------- [root@daffy asound]# cat cards 0 [card1 ]: CS461x - Sound Fusion CS461x Sound Fusion CS461x at 0xf3800000/0xf3000000, irq 5 [root@daffy asound]# cat devices 0: [0] : control 6: [0- 0]: mixer 8: [0- 0]: raw midi 16: [0- 0]: digital audio playback 24: [0- 0]: digital audio capture 33: : timer [root@daffy asound]# cat pcm 00-00: CS461x : CS461x : playback 1 : capture 1 [root@daffy asound]# cat oss-devices 2: [0- 2]: raw midi 9: [0- 9]: raw midi [root@daffy asound]# cat sndstat Sound Driver:3.8.2-980706 (ALSA v0.5.12a emulation code) Kernel: Linux daffy.mydomain.com.au 2.4.17 #2 SMP Tue Mar 19 10:09:15 EST 2002 i686 Config options: 0 Installed drivers: Type 10: ALSA emulation Card config: Sound Fusion CS461x at 0xf3800000/0xf3000000, irq 5 Audio devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG Midi devices: 0: CS461X Timers: 7: system timer Mixers: 0: Cirrus Logic (2d) --------------------------------------------------------- Also I've done the obvious things like increase the volume..etc via mixers.
