G'Day List,

I have been trying to configure a hercules fortissimoII snd card(cs4624
chipset) for about a week or so now and have
hit a dead-end, thought I better try the list just in case I've done
something stupid. I have tried the native
support in kernel 2.4.17, alsa 0.5.12a and alsa 0.9.0beta9(the lib
doesn't compile for me btw). Both the 0.5.12a
version and the native oss code compile cleanly and load OK. The mixers
seem to recognize them OK, but
if I start playing a CD or fire up a game there is no sound at all. The
cd players seem to be playing the cd as
expected, except for the fact that nothing is coming out. I read in an
archive somewhere the other night that
sometimes the chips have to be initialised via Windows and the supplied
software. I hope I don't have to do this :-(
bit of a pain to build a windows box just to get a sound card going.

It seems that there are many reports of success with this card so I am
assuming I have missed something along the way. Has anybody else had
trouble with this card and/or chipset??

Anyway here is some more info on the system;

kernel 2.4.17 smp
alsa 0.5.12a
