I've been using Alsa 0.9b10 and more recent CVS version of Alsa with the Quake 3 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but when the shutdown the fail to release the /dev/dsp device and lock until you kill the process. This problem seems to be fairly old and I can find instances of it on the mailing list before. I can't seem to find a solution, other than going back to the old OSS drivers.
