Hi, I'm having a problem with the ALSA sequencer - I think it's a problem with the emulation of /dev/sequencer. When a sequencer application (I've tried it with muse, noteedit, brahms and anthem) is trying to record from an external MIDI keyboard, my computer completely hangs. There doesnt seem to be any problems transmitting MIDI to an external device.
The reason that I think it's /dev/sequencer is that I can reproduce the problem by doing the following steps repeatedly. 1. take a snapshot of /dev/sequencer using 'cp /dev/sequencer fred' 2. play the external keyboard for a bit 3. stop the process in step 1, and then 'cp fred /dev/sequencer' (the keyboard plays the notes - obviously timing is off) After repeating this steps 5 or 6 times, my computer locks up exactly the same way as when the sequencers are being used. I have SuSE Linux 7.3 (I have tried both kernel 2.4.10 and 2.4.16) and ALSA 0.5.12 (I have tried 0.5.10 with the same results). My soundcard is a Soundblaster AWE64. I think I've seen two other references to this problem in the various ALSA lists and forums on sourceforge: - in October 2001, swordman posted a comment in the Help forum that he was having the same problem with a CMI 8738 card using ALSA 0.9 beta 7 - Erik Lotspeich on 12/29/2001 said that he got this problem with a VIA686 I've been trying to work this out for nearly a week, anyone got any ideas?
