After six hours of trying to get this stuff working, I've decided to post a 
message here.

dmesg shows that I have the following error:
        ALSA card-via686a.c:1191: VIA 82C686A soundcard not found or device busy

Anyone help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm quite stuck.
