The Alsa sound matrix lists the M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 as supported, however the drivers do not recognize the sub-id, nor do the ice1712 drivers work with this card (I added the sub-id and an ID string in the source, skipped the mp401 driver init and recompiled - no luck). The device gets recognized, and you can configure it all you like, but the result is silence. The same card works with OSS drivers. A second sound card on the same machine (SBLive!) works with alsa drivers.
