Thanks to everyone who offered input on the xrun thing. I found a
stray process on my system which was eating up some CPU and killed
it off, and now I don't get xruns anymore. Since this is probably
a pretty common occurance, it seems like something that might do
well to be added to the aplay/arecord man pages.
My recording setup is almost completely working now, but there's
just one remaining hitch: for some reason, the recording stream stops
after 2,147,483,648 bytes of data. With 12 channel recording this
is about 7 minutes, and with 2 channel recording it's about 46.6
minutes. Since I'm trying to record full-length CDs, this is a
little short.
One interesting thing is that recording in 12 channel mode
(that is, -D hw:1) the file stops growing larger after 2.1G, but
arecord does not exit. In 2 channel mode (-D plughw:1) arecord
exits when it hits the the 2.1G mark.
Is this a bug (I'm using 0.9.0beta6, BTW, because the envy
drivers don't work with the latest) or is it something I have
misconfigured?
Thanks again for all of you guys' help. I'm well on my way to
a professional-level recording studio thanks to ALSA.
-Adam
