I don't think it necessarily makes sense to say that the severity of a crime is linearly proportional to its Class. I don't feel like seven class-2 crimes ought to equate to one class-14 crime. Quadratic makes more sense to me personally: a class-14 crime is 49 times as severe as a class-2 crime; Endorsing Forgery is 16 times as severe as Tardiness. —Machiavelli
