It was based on a similar one posted to rec.puzzles a few weeks ago. I
seem to have deleted the original message; reconstructing from memory:
Take "zero" through "nine", reverse them, extract the second and third
characters, and alphabetize:
zero -> re
one -> no
two -> wt
three -> er
four -> uo
five -> vi
six -> is
seven -> ev
eight -> hg
nine -> ni
so the answer was "re uo" (and the rest of the sequence was "vi wt",
but the puzzle deliberately obfuscated that the sequence was built
from exactly ten original elements).
