To be on a coordinate that is also collinear but in between 2 of the
contestants.  I thought "breaks the line" reads more easily though or
do you think it is too ambiguous?

That part is reasonable, although it is a bit ambiguous.  Mostly I'm
just not sure what constitutes an item on the map.

How about "item (non-space character)". Or defining a separate section for what constitutes items breaking etc.
