Rule 105 states:
A rule change is wholly prevented from taking effect unless its
full text was published, along with an unambiguous and clear
specification of the method to be used for changing the rule, at
least 4 days and no more than 60 days before it would otherwise
take effect.
This public message serves to notify players of the text and mechanisms
of rules changes I'm considering making over the next few days (it does
not require specifying who performs the change), and of the
consequences of adopting and/or reviving certain proposals. Note that
this does not necessarily mean that I will make those changes, or even
that I can make those changes, just that I am keeping my options open
by warning players that they might occur or that hypotheticals
involving them might be relevant. (It does, however, mean that I'm
going to lay out most of the important details of how a scam works four
days before I actually get to try to deploy it, which may be a first
for Agora.)
In the rest of this document, "Purchased Re-enactment" refers to the
rule that will be created by proposal 9328 if/when it is adopted; this
notification envisages that the changes in qustion will happen in a
situation in which that rule already exists in the ruleset; and
references to past proposals are referring to "adopted proposals" as
defined in that rule, using the ID numbers by which they were known at
the time they were adopted.
I notify that a rule with power 1 that reads:
{{{
Anyone CAN cause this rule to amend itself by announcement.
}}}
may be created (initially with no title) when a player revives proposal
6069 using "Purchased Re-enactment", at which point "Purchased Re-
enactment" will create a rule with that text. In the rest of this
document, "6069 Dictatorship" refers to a rule created in such a
fashion.
For reference:
> Proposal 6069 (Ordinary, AI=1.0, Interest=1) by comex
> <none>
>
> Create a rule that reads:
> {
> Anyone CAN cause this rule to amend itself by announcement.
> }
I notify that a rule with power 1 that reads:
{{{
Anyone CAN cause this rule to amend itself by announcement.
}}}
may be created if proposal 6069 is (again) adopted.
I notify that "6069 Dictatorship" may be amended to read as follows:
{{{
ais523 CAN cause this rule to amend itself with support from Janet.
Janet CAN cause this rule to amend itself with support from ais523.
If at any point (including points in the middle of a public message) a
player other than ais523 or Janet would have more than 24 Spendies, all
but 24 of that player's Spendies are automatically and immediately
revoked from that player.
ais523 CAN grant emself any number of Spendies by announcement.
Janet CAN grant emself any number of Spendies by announcement.
}}}
as a consequence of a player using the mechanism in the rule "6069
Dictatorship" to cause that rule to amend itself. (Context: allowing
arbitrary players to revive arbitrary proposals is probably dangerous
and this is a workaround to prevent other players using "Purchased Re-
enactment" that is usable even from a power-1 rule. If it ends
destroying spendies, I will aim to replace them.)
I notify that a rule with power 2 that reads:
{{{
If a rule (other than this one) exists that mentions the
possibility of a player causing a rule to make rule changes by
announcement, any player can cause that rule to amend itself by
announcement.
}}}
may be created (initially with no title) when a player revives proposal
6130 using "Purchased Re-enactment", at which point "Purchased Re-
enactment" will create a rule with that text (but with power 2, because
rule 105 reduces the power of created rules to match that of the rule
creating them, if it would be higher). In the rest of this document,
"6130 Dictatorship A" refers to the first rule created in such a
fashion and "6130 Dictatorship B" refers to the second rule created in
such a fashion. (It is possible that this mechanism will be used
multiple times, on each occasion creating an additional rule with the
same text.)
For reference:
> Proposal 6130 (Democratic, AI=3.0, Interest=1) by ais523, Goethe
> Open It Up
>
> Create a Rule with the following text and a power of 3:
>
> If a rule (other than this one) exists that mentions the
> possibility of a player causing a rule to make rule changes by
> announcement, any player can cause that rule to amend itself by
> announcement.
I notify that a rule with power 3 that reads:
{{{
If a rule (other than this one) exists that mentions the
possibility of a player causing a rule to make rule changes by
announcement, any player can cause that rule to amend itself by
announcement.
}}}
may be created if proposal 6130 is (again) adopted, and if it is
adopted multiple times, it will create a rule with that text each time.
I notify that "6130 Dictatorship A" may be amended to read as follows:
{{{
ais523 CAN cause this rule to amend itself with support from Janet.
Janet CAN cause this rule to amend itself with support from ais523.
ais523 and Janet CAN each by announcement cause this rule to repeal a
rule (other than this one) that was created during April 2026 or May
2026 (but must, when doing so, specify which rule is being repealed).
}}}
by using the mechanism provided in "6130 Dictatorship B" to cause "6130
Dictatorship A" to amend itself. In the rest of this message, "6130
Dictatorship A2" refers to "6130 Dictatorship A" as amended like this.
I notify that "6130 Dictatorship B" may be repealed when a player uses
the mechanism in "6130 Dictatorship A2" to cause "6130 Dictatorship A2"
to repeal it.
I notify that "6069 Dictatorship" may be repealed when a player uses
the mechanism in "6130 Dictatorship A2" to cause "6130 Dictatorship A2"
to repeal it.
I notify that "Purchased Re-enactment" may be repealed when a player
uses the mechanism in "6130 Dictatorship A2" to cause "6130
Dictatorship A2" to repeal it.
I don't think that there's any mechanism in the ruleset that would
allow the rest of you to stop this scam before I'm able to deploy it,
but if anyone wants to try some counter-scamming, now would be a good
time! We don't have serious dictatorship attempts very often nowadays,
after all, so there isn't much opportunity to try fighting against
them.
(As usual, I'm not planning to do much with the dictatorship other than
a win for me and for Janet, maybe a lasting trophy, and the story of
having managed a dictatorship. But the story of Agora is one of Agora's
major outputs/products, and so if this works, I will be happy to have
added to it.)
