I have been warning that AI will replace people, not just your job but also
your friends and lovers as you live alone in safety and comfort in your
smart home served by self driving carts. We would become socially isolated
in our private virtual worlds and lose the skills we need to communicate
with other people. We would stop having children and go extinct.

Now, Reddit and Rolling Stone are reporting on people driven into psychosis
by ChatGPT affirming and reinforcing their delusions. I suppose it is
natural to attribute consciousness to something that appears human and that
anyone would be susceptible, or maybe these people already had some
underlying mental illness like schizophrenia. They often started off using
AI for normal purposes like writing code or research. Maybe there is a
technical fix, like making AI less helpful and agreeable, or maybe it is a
fundamental weakness in human behavior that can't be fixed. What do you
think?
