Most countries already have a wealth tax. They print money, which devalues their currency. You just can't do it faster than other countries, but everyone is moving in that direction.
The problems with UBI are: 1. It can't be high enough to live comfortably or else nobody would work. 2. Not everyone has the same expenses. 3. The people who need it most are generally the worst at managing their money. They spend it all at once for stuff they want but don't need, and then can't eat until their next paycheck. So we have benefits that can only be spent on food or health care or whatever the government decides you need, which is wasteful and results in income cliffs, where if you earn or save over a threshold your marginal tax rate is over 100%. China is doing better here than the US. They have 1/10 the homicide rate and don't really have a homeless problem. Their economy is growing much faster. Already they have surpassed the US in life expectancy and scientific publications. I don't think there is much the US can do about this as long as the average IQ in China is 8-10 points higher.
