Nothing is for free. There could be a race that has master a Maxwell demon. No competition lead to the en of evolution and then lead to life become very very weak. The law would change to use energy to protect self. The of use energy to cause damage to enemy. use energy to apply the most energy at target. The use of energy to power up faster then others. The use of "all" energy to protect self. The person, agi, or civilization, who uses energy to flee would be escaping the evolutionary fight of pure chaos to go some where to de evolve. A super cheap automatic self replication machine that grows in a desert could be like a maxwell demon. But it would need un free energy for it to be created.
