I vote for an AFMUG. Has to be Jan or Feb though so I can write off the ski
trip. I just attended Connected America here in Dallas and I can count on
one hand the actual carriers (fiber or wireless) that showed up and three
of those were because I gave them tickets. Almost every attendee was a
consultant or "engineering" firm helping people deploy fiber. If only we
had that many "engineers" helping when fixed wireless started, we might
have better networks. Not putting down the entrepreneurial spirit of our
industry, but coming from cellular, I can certainly say that there are a
lot of poorly deployed networks out there. Notice I didn't say designed?
The shoestring budgets and stubborn "I can do it all" attitudes don't help.
I've been guilty of it myself, no doubt. A good old AFMUG with worthwhile
topics and presenters with real world expertise and experience would be a
fun and welcome event. Did I mention there could be skiing as well?
