Not quite correct. The current system integrator is L3Harris, and the current system I think is 10 or 20 years old and outdated. In 2023, Verizon won a $2 billion 15 year contract to update the network.
Supposedly all parties are reporting that L3Harris is working with SpaceX (and they claim this started before the election) to use Starlink to patch up the current system. They say SpaceX has provided some Starlink terminals initially at no cost for testing. So if you mean the Starlink terminals are being used to replace some current cellular stuff, that could be correct. If you mean they are being used to replace Verizon’s $2 billion 15 year infrastructure contract, that doesn’t sound correct. Elon Musk seems to have misunderstood what his own guys were telling him and initially confused the L3Harris system and what Verizon is building, but I think he has walked that back.
