I need to provide WiFi to consumer devices in an open corridor not too wide but more than a mile long. Any suggestions? Anyone with experience providing WiFi to large open areas? I need to figure out how many APs I'll need and thus how many poles, power, etc.
In particular, I'm wondering if something like a Cambium 502S Sector outdoor WiFi Access point would be useful in reducing the number of APs I need. They claim it has 17 dBi of antenna gain. That suggests a longer, not so wide coverage area in one direction rather than a circle around the AP. I'm interested in a sense of how far an outdoor user can be from the AP and still get a usable WiFi connection. If you have specific experience with any particular AP, I'd love to hear how far it worked. Thanks, Brough Brough Turner netBlazr Inc. – Free your Broadband!
