The volume of train traffic I am seeing on _any_ ( not burned ) rail
line on the west coast is amazing. Trains at min separation going
through loaded with containers or tankers. There is a push to move
those containers when they get out of the shipping yards, it's still the
transfer yards holding everything back.

from me has an entry level labor job listed at $29/hour.
Another billboard on 1-15 over in the SLC valley has a job listing 4
weeks paid vacation for entry level people.
At least the lumber prices are coming down. Looks like plastic is too.

I would love to see an easy worker visa. Pass a background check,
get 6 months. Renews every 6 months as long as you keep your nose clean.
I had to shut down my microtrenching operation due to the fact that I
could not hire enough to keep it running and making money at the same
time.
I needed at least 22-25 on a crew and we were chronically at the
15-18 person level. Toward the end I would hire anyone that would
actually show for an interview. We would have 25 apply and most
agree to an interview, lucky if one actually showed up and half of
them were a no call no show the first day of work. So sick of white
millennials with no driver’s licenses that have to take off mid week
for drug court/meeting/testing etc. I was all for giving them a
leg up and learning a career but you can’t run a company with nothing
but that for your hiring pool.
I actually had a Hispanic guy offer to hook me up with a “group” that
would promise lots of good workers. A small regular contribution was
required... I turned down that generous offer...
The microtrenching crews that are 100% Mexican or 100% poly are
kicking butt.
