I've only ever read about Erbium amplifiers. I'll probably never see
one in real life.

They are most likely full of crap. Offer to buy them a switch that

Erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) are available but nobody uses
them for that short of a distance.

We are working on upgrading one of our transport lines. The
distance between us and them is about 25km. Carrier is telling me
only 10km optics are available om their end. I know there are 40km
and even 80km optics available, but the pricing does jump quite a bit.
I'm calling them out on the 40km optics and waiting on a response.
But want to have some type of backup plan if they refuse to budge.
What repeaters are available out there. Not sure if I'm using correct
term when searching. This is the only thing I found so far
https://www.cubeoptics.com/demarc-convert
Other option is to get a cheap switch to do what I need it to do.
