Yeah. I was resistant to that idea for a long time, but the push for
more mbps for fewer dollars makes it hard to ignore.
The future is layer2 to remote locations, and layer3 on virtual routers
in the core.

Oh, for sure. Virtualized routers are where the industry is going, whether it's
a VM running on your compute infrastructure or on your switch\router.

Most people don't use them in the "cloud" but they run them in their data
center, i.e. instead of a physical box in front of the servers, they just run it on their
servers. Not stating that this is good or bad, just another design choice. I have
complicated this, but cannot justify when I already have hardware running.

OK, I'm willing to appear stupid and ask the question. What do you do with a
router in the cloud?

Managed to get it setup on Linode and seems to be working quite well.
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:CHR_Linode
Anyone else using Linode?
Anyone using a cloud hosted Mikrotik router? Where and how much? We
have one Mikrotik we use to terminate a number of tunnels for modem
management and when its fiber got cut last time it made us think a
cloud solution might be better.
