Oh, for sure. Virtualized routers are where the industry is going, whether it's 
a VM running on your compute infrastructure or on your switch\router.

Most people don't use them in the "cloud" but they run them in their data 
center, i.e. instead of a physical box in front of the servers, they just run 
it on their servers.  Not stating that this is good or bad, just another design 
choice.   I have complicated this, but cannot justify when I already have 
hardware running.
