When the Cellco's first started running fiber to the antenna years ago,
we were talking to some tower guys who said that the cable they chose
was a "green" cable which had a plant based jacket. The squirrels loved
it. Apparently it wasn't uncommon to be looking into the eyes of an
angry squirrel 180' up a monopole. I'm guessing they just changed
cables, as I don't see any other 'special' things at tower sites these
days.

Is the fiber armored or just single jacket?
We have repaired a number of the ADSS cables that the school district
ran that have been chewed by squirrels. So far we have not seen any
damage to the armored cables that we replaced them with.
Commscope makes an ‘alternative jacket’ cable that apparently tastes
bad. Can’t say I have tried it (either installing it or eating it):
