I am running a field trial right now on cold galv spray paint, plasma arc
spray, regular paint and galv stick for repair of hot dipped galv parts.
So far the cold galv spray paint is actually seeming to be OK. I know chain
link fence people use it for the welds on the gates they make. I have never
trusted it. But I think I may be changing my opinion.

That is exactly what I do, I spray cold galvanizing on the ends.

I could be wrong, but I think one of the differences when you buy antenna
mounting pipes from a microwave equipment distributor, is that the pipe is hot
dip galvanized after being cut to length, so that the ends don’t have exposed
steel.

Honestly, I’ve never seen a problem with pipe or conduit that was field cut
to length. If you obsess about such things, I guess you could spray some cold
galvanizing on the ends.

we get our pipe from the local plumbing shop. site pro accidentally forgot to
acetone wash the pipe one time, when we got the part number off of it, it
turned out its just galvanized water pipe. 3 inch will be roughly 3.5 OD

My go to pipe is 2.5” IMC, it has a 2.875 OD. I get it usually from my
electrical wholesaler, but if you have a Menards, they will ship to store for

You want 3" IC (Intermediate Conduit) - stuff is solid as a rock and
usually galvanized pretty well also. You can get a cap for it at the plumbing
supply store

Have you tried an Electrical supply warehouse. I was amazed at some of
the pipe for mounting and conduit they have.
