According to the TSM Problem Determination guide, a number of VSS errors are treated as transient. The default client behaviour should be to re-try the operation three times at 30-second intervals but this has not been my experience - a single error of type VSS_E_SNAPSHOT_SET_IN_PROGRESS is enough to mess up the backup of the ASR files within seconds of it starting.
I've logged a PMR concerning the issue, but my questions to the list are: - does anyone encounter this specific VSS error? - has anyone had any joy with the retry logic in the client such that the system state backup goes on to complete successfully? We see this an awful lot on Windows Server 2008 R2 running the 6.3.0.x client code.
