Let me first say that yes this is annoying, and should not happen. I guess there is very little you can do in a virtualised environment as 5i lpar's are. Now just for the record, how often do you reboot? I tend not to reboot on a daily or even monthly basis, it's 24*7 production environment.... Now for a 'work-arond'.... you could possibly quite easily build a server script to do a bunch of 'update drive..... serial=autodetect' things and run that after every reboot....
