Richard, your information solved the problem. A new search on the system told me, that glibc-locale-32bit-9 was not installed. Only glibc-locale was installed, but not the 32bit version. After the installation of glibc-locale-32bit-9-200512120222 from SLES9 SP3 everything looks well.
