I didn't see mention what release of OS/390 they're running. If he's not at the level of TCP where TSm is using the Bpx IP services, then CPU will be high.

I haven't done TSM on OS390 since V3, but on every platform, RECLAIM and EXPIRATION are more CPU intensive than just doing backups. You can help yourself sometimes by forcing the scheduling of those two tasks to off-hours instead of letting TSM run them on its own, which is the default... -----Original Message----- From: John Naylor [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, November 13, 2001 10:26 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: TSM 4.1 & MVS 390 Performance Hi John, Its not the amount of data, its the number of files. In other words its the database entries that carry the relatively high cpu overhead. But thats pretty well the same with any large DB2 or similar database application. regards "Doherty, John (ANFIS)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> on 11/13/2001 02:53:58 PM Please respond to "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: (bcc: John Naylor/HAV/SSE) Subject: TSM 4.1 & MVS 390 Performance Hi let me explain my problem and see if any of you mainframe 390 guru's Can help me. We are currently running TSM 4.1.2.0 on a 390 mainframe running on a token ring network We currently back up on average 230 nodes per night amounting to approx. +60GB per night. We have found TSM very CPU intensive in relation to other applications, say DFDSS moving 2GB or FTP or HSM. I realise that backing up data comes at a cost but are any of you experiencing similar Problems with TSM and OS390 ? Or is it just that TSM running on a mainframe is notoriously CPU intensive any replies on performance re 390 and TSM appreciated. > John Doherty > Technical Specialist > Storage Management > Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Tel: +44 (0) 141 275 7793 > Fax: +44 (0) 141 275 9199 > > > Email communications are not necessarily secure and may be intercepted or > changed after they are sent.
