My RPi 3b board crashes when overheated and I don't think it hits thermal 
throttling at that point yet. USB sure does love to give errors there on high 
temperatures, but this is probably just USB - or the fact that high 
temperatures correlate with high network activity which uses the same USB 
bridge on RPi

I would recommend netbooting, investing into cooling, or not working the system 
as much. That is if the micro SD card really is fine
